In mid 2020, Apple last updated the iMac, but now it is not a good time for you to buy a iMac. There are rumors about an updated version of iMac. The latest iMac model will feature a faster Apple Silicon Chip and overhauled design.

As you can see that a significant update is on its way, so it will be best for you to hold off if you are planning to buy an iMac currently. As, the release date is not confirmed yet.

The iMac line was updated on 4th of august, 2020. It got some of the minor changes prior and also expected to shift to Apple Silicon.

1. The 27 inch iMac gained 10th generation intel processor, nano textured glass option, moved to SSD for all configuration and 1080p facetime camera.
2. The 21.5 inch iMac gained fusion drive that is still available for some configurations and SSD options.
3. The iMac Pro gained 10Core Xenon Processor by default. But iMac Pro lacks the option for the nano textured glass.

External design.

The external has not changed in 13 years. It just got minor alterations to the size of the screen. The aspect ratio is actually the most noticeable alteration.

The 24 inch iMac is expected to gain a redesigned chassis with Apple Silicon but the iMac2020 that have intel will not gain it.

As for potential all in one desktop, not very much is known till now. But, it can be said that the updates it will receive can be inferred from recent releases and other products.

The all in one desktop PC of iMac will have all of its computing components tucked away behind the screen. This shows that Apple had to work with a high thermal load in the same hump back casings. Their colors need to grow too, intel chips should be improved and the same points goes for the discrete graphics.

For better quieter fans and airflow, the iMac Pro changed the internals entirely, but the limitations for thermal still exist. The redesign is expected to take on elements of Pro Display XDR or iPad Pro, both of them reflecting Apple’s modern design philosophy.

2018, the iPad Pro saw a major redesign that will remove the home button and chin in favour of face ID, Bezel less display and flat sides. If the iMac does shift to a similar design, it will actually mean, to 23 inches, pushing the 21.5 inch display out by removing the chin and the large bezels.

One of the twitter users, with the handle iFinder posted about the icons in iOS code that indicated some of the changes from factor to the iMac. The bezels are not very thin,but more uniform.

The Pro Display XDR contains a design Similar to the Mac Pro Tower with cheese grater holes in the back and all screen display. It also has a stand that can rotate and pivot the display. 

Performance.

Upgrading to the 10th generation intel processor is the most obvious update for the iMac. Apple offers capable desktop combines with a new AMD Navi GPU.
