The iMac G3 was originally released as an iMac. It was part of a series of Macintosh Personal Computers which was developed by Apple. It was developed under the tenure of Apple’s interim CEO. its Co-Founder was Steve Jobs.

This iMac was actually a huge success for the Apple Company. It influences competitors’ product design and revitalizes the company.

It played a role in abandoning legacy technologies like serial ports, floppy disc and Apple Desktop Bus in favour of USB.

Throughout 1998 until 2001, this product was updated with latest technologies and modest colors. Then it was replaced with eMac and iMac G4.

A Look Back.

As we all know, Apple is one of the most innovative and successful computer technology companies in the history of humans. World renowned for products such as MacBook and iPhone. One of the revolutionary and legendary products of Apple was iMac G3.

iMac G3 Design.

From any previous mainstream computer the iMac G3, was dramatically different. it was made up of translucent Bondi blue color. it was egg shaped, colored plastic and around a 15 inch CRT display. there was the handle and the peripheral connected in the case.

the connectors were actually hidden behind the door on the right hand side of the machine. the complemented built-in stereo speakers were present in the dual headphone jack in the front.

The original designer of this product was Den Acosta and Jonathan Ive. The color options and unique shape of iMac G3 held in gained itself into late 1990s pop culture. This Mac was actually the first computer which offered USB ports and also included the connector for its new mouse and keyboard that made a bend in the previous Macintosh peripheral connections like SCSI, Geoport serial port, and ADB. 

one of the good steps in this iMac G3 was abandoning the 3.5 inch floppy disc drive. Apple also argued that the internet, recordable CDs, and office network were quickly making diskettes obsolete.

 When the iMac G3 was introduced the third-party manufacturers also offered floppy disk drivers and external USB, that is often in translucent plastic to match the iMac enclosure.

The components like tray loading CD-ROM and front mounted irDA port which borrowed from Apple laptop line.

but this match did not officially have expansion slowed the first version had the slot that was dubbed in mezzanine slot it was only for Apple internal use. The mouse and the keyboard were also redesigned for this iMac, with translucent plastic and a Bondi blue trim.

In comparison with Apple’s previous keyboard the Apple USB keyboard was smaller in size and got white characters on the black keys and boards were the attributes that attracted debate. As for the apple’s USB mouse it was mechanical and of a round hockey puck design. it was unnecessarily difficult for users with large hands. 

After some time Apple introduced a new capsule shaped optical mouse that was known as apple Pro mouse and later renamed as apple Mouse it actually replaced the round mouse across all of Apple hardware offerings. At the same time the full-size keyboard was also introduced it was known as the Apple Pro keyboard. this keyboard had extended layout note scenes in Apple glass ADB keyboards

Concepts.

As mentioned above, it was released in August 1998, so it is a very old product now. 

The original iMac debuted under $1,300 and it featured a 233MHz G3 Processor. With a curved CRT monitor, 4GB Hard Drive, 32MB of RAM, Double USB Ports, 24x tray loading CD drive, Circular mouse, 512MB Cache. In short, it was providing every feature you needed.

Technical

iMac was a combination of CHRP and MacNC internally. 

but the promise of CHRP has never been fully realised. The work that Apple have operated on CHRP significantly helped in the designing of the iMac G3 originally it was a 233 MHz PowerPC G3 chip.

 it has 512 KB L2 cache running at 116.6 MHz also ran in Apple’s high end Mac its speed was high and, shipped with Mac OS 8.1, which was then soon upgraded to makeover 8.5.

 The iMac G3 officially did not have an expansion slot as for the first version does load dubbed the mezzanine slot. It was only for Apple for internal use. all of your third party expansion cards are also released for a Voodoo II video card upgraded from 3dfx and SCSI-TV  tuner cards from the German company formac.

The hard drive present in iMac G3 was Quantum Fireball. 

iMac G3 Updates. 

After the initial release it was continually updated speed, video Ram, increasing processor speed, hard disk capacity.

Apple also replaced Bondi blue with new colors like strawberry and green grape line and Blueberry later more other colors such as Ruby, tangerine, graphite, and Indigo.

The blue Dalmatian with the flower power pattern was also introduced.

The slow loading optical drive was introduced in the second generation iMac, like firewire, fanless operations and the operation of airport Wireless networking until March 2003 Apple continued to sell. this line of iMac mainly to the consumers who wished the ability to run older Mac OS 9 operating systems.

 firewire port and USB and support for internet dial up and Wireless networking became standard across Apple’s entire product line. In short the firewire and the high-speed interference corrected the deficiencies of earlier iMac models, and now targeted the education market and renamed the iMac G3 it kept in production alongside with the iMac G4 successor until the eMac was released.

The tray loading iMac G3 introduced a15 CRT display, with 768 X 1024 resolution, as for the output and input port the sports includes 2 USB 1.1 4 built in 10/100base-T, 56k modem 4mbit infrared port that was only included in revision A model.

 It also contained microphone stereo speakers, audio line in audio line out and set to headphone port which were present near the right speaker the iMac also had a door covering the ports with the hole for managing cables.

The iMac also includes an u-shaped Apple USB mouse, and a new compact Apple USB keyboard. These were available with Bondi blue but this was discontinued in favour of Blueberry line, strawberry, grape, tangerine colour. On October 5 1999 the tray loading iMac was discontinued when the new slow loading iMac G3 was introduced.

Slot loading. 

As for the display of iMac, it was a 15 inch viewable screen, with 768 into 1024 pixel resolution. The graphics was Ati rage 128 VR graphic processor, with the memory of 8 MB.

As for the hard drive, it contains a hard drive of 6GB, 10GB or 13 GB. Its processor was 350 MHz 400mhz PowerPC G3 the memory for float loading. iMac was 64 MB or 128 MB and Airport was an optional airport 802.11 B card adapter was required with this.

 as for the modem it was integrated 56k. The optical drive was 24 x cloth loading CD-ROM device or 4x slot loading DVD-ROM drive Mac OS 8.6 was the minimum operating system required in this iMac and the color available was Blueberry, green grapes, strawberry, graphite, and lime. 

its weight was 34.7 Pounds that was 15.8 kg, and the dimension was 15.0 X 15.0 X 17.1 inches or you can say the 381 X 381 x 38mm.
